Vitamins are an essential requirement of our body. They act to
strengthen our immunity and facilitate functionality and are a necessity for
growth and survival. Absence or lack of any essential vitamin may cause a host
of problems. There are two classes of vitamins fat-soluble or water-soluble.
These designations are given based on their solubility in water or fat. Those
which get dissolved in water can be excreted very easily and so you cannot
overdose on them, on the other hand, fat-soluble can cause toxicity if taken in
more than indicated amounts, these are vitamin d, a, e, k
the class of fat soluble vitamins. There are certain herbs also that are
proving to be of great benefit for people. One such herb to treat people with
psychological problems is valerian.
Vitamin b complex is one of the most essential groups of vitamins
for metabolism of cells and cell growth. It is a water-soluble group of
vitamins that cannot cause toxicity and can be taken in larger doses without
causing harm. The group consists of biotin, which is also called vitamin B7, a vitamin that
is essential for the health of nails, hair, and skin. It is also essential for
the metabolism of lipids and carbohydrates. Not only this, but it also aids
energy production in the body, and help in growth and replenishment of the body
structures. The deficiency of this vitamin may cause impaired growth in infants
and babies. Vitamin b12 is a
part of the group, which is also called cobalamin and is required for
metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and lipids. It plays a very significant role
in production of red blood cells and bone marrow. The deficiency of this
vitamin causes hemolytic anemia, peripheral neuropathy and in severe cases
psychosis also.
Vitamin d is a fat-soluble vitamin that is essential for healthy
bones. Vitamin d can only be obtained naturally from the sunlight but in
specific geographical areas where obtaining enough sunlight is an issue, these
can be had in form of capsules. Vitamin d absorption is dependent upon calcium
present in the body, so these two are often suggested to be had together. Vitamin d3 is also called
cholecaciferol and is a more active form of vitamin d3, whenever vitamin d
needs to be administered; d3 is the form in which it is given, because
absorption is increased manifold in this form.
Valerian is the extract that is obtained from the roots of plant
of the same name. This is essentially an herb, and is taken in the form of
dietary supplement. This herb has sedative and anxiolytic effects, which means
that this can be given to the people who suffer from panic or anxiety attacks.
These are available in the form of capsules, and can be consumed on a regular
basis without the fear of side effects.
All these vitamins and herbal derivatives can help you to achieve a
healthy and disease free life, and eventually let you to live your life to the
fullest!
